Welcome to our 4th annual Mother's Day/Queen for a Day contest. If you want to see previous contestants, you can check them out here.

This year's contestants are listed below, and each of them will share their story with you. Under each animal's photo is a button which will allow you to "vote" for that animal with a donation made in their name (which will be used to care for all our animals), by either credit card (no Paypal account required) or by Paypal account (you can also mail in a donation here). On May 11th (the day after mother's day), we will add up all the donations raised by each animal and crown our "Queen for a Day" (and share it on our website).

In addition, if you make a "vote / donation" online, you will have access to a Mother's Day PDF card we have made (just print it and fold it), which you can use to honor your mom as well. If your donation is at least $15, we can even post an "In Honor of" or "Memorial" to your mom as well on our website.

Now, let's meet this year's contestants.........

GINGER

They named me Ginger, I guess because I’m an orange tabby. You don’t see too many female orange tabbies. I used to live in a home but then my owner moved away and left me behind pregnant and homeless. I struggled to keep my three kittens safe for several weeks, living under a smelly, muddy deck.

One day this lady crawled under the deck and rescued my babies and I. Boy was I happy, I got cleaned up and had a safe place with lots of good food where I could finish raising my little ones...who were all orange like me.

My foster mom even had some other orphaned kitties at her house and I happily took them on as my own, licking them and letting them nurse. I was a terrific mom cat I’m told, but hey I was just doing my job. I had ear mites and ear infections so bad that I had scratched all the hair off the sides of my head. My foster mom worked really hard to rid me of those nasty ear problems and I was really happy about that.

All three of my kittens were adopted together to a nice family, if you can believe that! Then I found my forever home soon after that. All those other kittens I helped mother turned out fantastic and were adopted as well.

So vote for me, not only did I care for my own litter I also helped many more kittens get the mothering they needed. Even though I am in my own home now I will forever be part of the Animal Outreach family. They will always keep their commitment to me. If my family finds out they cannot care for me anymore, I will be welcomed back to find another home no matter how old I am, and for that I am eternally grateful.

KATIE

Hi I’m Katie. I was once a cat with a caretaker, but somehow last summer I found myself outside and very pregnant. Well within a few days of being at my new foster home… I really liked it there, it was safe and there was plenty of food to eat… I had three kittens. I was a super mom and did a great job with my little ones. One of my kittens, Zoie, even looks a lot like me. My foster mom decided to adopted her.

But my story doesn’t end there. My two other kittens found some great homes and then it was my turn. I went to this place called Petsmart and I showed myself off for awhile. I’m a real catch, I’m friendly and independent and can stick up for myself. Well one day when I was there an accident happened and I hurt my shoulder really bad, so Animal Outreach sent me back to my foster home to recuperate.

Unfortunately I wasn’t getting better. I limped and was in a lot of pain. I saw lots of those veterinarian people who took lots of pictures of my insides to figure out what was wrong. Finally I went to what someone called an orthopedic specialist… I don’t know what that is… but he did some surgery and actually rebuilt my shoulder, which was really messed up. I’m like the Bionic Kitty now! That wasn’t that long ago so I’m still getting better, hanging with my daughter Zoie and a few other kittens my foster mom is taking care of now. Hopefully it won’t be long before I am back up for adoption and living pain free.

Vote now and vote often, I can never repay Animal Outreach for taking care of my shoulder, but with your votes they can help out more injured kitties like myself.

ANGELINA

Hi there, I'm Angelina. I’m pretty shy of people, but I’ve been told there is this Mother’s Day Contest and I’m a candidate. I'm not sure why I'm being honored, I was just doing what good moms do, taking care of my four kittens. I was living outside where it was really cold with lots of snow on the ground. I huddled against heat vents to stay warm and somehow managed to keep my four kittens Shiloh, Dewey, Mollie and Ami alive. Then one day, this lady took my kittens inside her home. They were pretty young back then, just 4 weeks old. She called Animal Outreach right away to get some help. I stood by this big window looking in on my kittens, but I wasn’t going in there, I was too scared so I stayed in the cold even though I was sick and not feeling well.

Then these Animal Outreach ladies took my kittens away and I was pretty worried, what were they going to do with them? Later that very day, some metal contraption showed up right next to that lady's house. It had some yummy food in it so I decided to check it out, but as soon as I reached the food, I heard the door snap closed behind me. I'll confess I was a little scared, but it wasn’t long before I was warm and most importantly reunited with my kittens. My foster mom made sure I got better and had all the food I needed and a comfy place to sleep.

My kittens were all adopted into nice homes once they were old enough to be on their own. I’m still living in my foster home, and not too long ago, I went in and had a little operation so I wouldn’t have to be a single mom again. I love the other kitties in my foster home, but I’m still not so sure of people. I’d love to find a place where I could live with some other nice kitties as I've kind of gotten used of this whole indoors life gig. I’d love your vote, and I’d love a home even more. I’m a good girl. I don’t make messes and I use my litterbox and I’m never mean to any humans, I’m just a little shy of them.

So that's my story, I hope you consider voting for me.

TESSIE

Whew! What a year it has been! I was living with a bunch of other cats not too long ago and then...all of sudden...we found ourselves left at this big barn with a bunch of funny looking animals. I asked them who they were, but all they ever said was baaaaa. The family there was a little shocked to see so many of us there all of a sudden. They gave us some food and called some animal shelters to come and help. These Animal Outreach people came one day and took me and three of my friendly cat friends to foster homes so we could be cared for.

They kept saying how pregnant I looked… how rude is that! But I guess they were right, only two days after I went to my foster home I had 5 kittens, four girls and one boy. I realized how lucky I was to be there, it would have been so scary to have my kittens in a smelly and cold sheep barn. At my foster home I had all the food and clean water I wanted and a safe place to care for my kittens.

I’m still caring for my kittens, who were born on March 7th. I had some trouble feeding all five so my foster mom really helped me out there. Now all five are growing and growing every day. Not long after Mother’s Day I too will be ready for a home of my own after I’m altered (no more surprises for anyone). My kittens will also be up for adoption in the next few months when they are old enough.

I’d love to win this contest here, they say that every vote means that Animal Outreach can help even more single moms like myself care for their babies in a safe home and stop the reproduction cycle. I look forward to finding my own new family. Happy Mother's Day to all!
